In February 2019, local public health officials from the San Luis Valley, as well as community partners, attended a training of trainers event to learn how to facilitate a vaping prevention workshop, “Schools, Vaping, and JUULs,” developed by RMC Health. Once trained, local public health officials are equipped to educate school staff on how to implement best practices in preventing youth use of electronic nicotine devices. The San Luis Valley staff were eager to learn and implement this comprehensive approach to tobacco-free schools work and have begun planning how they can work with schools to implement alternatives to suspension, and make connections to other work currently being done in the region. San Luis Valley Public Health is doing great work in preventing youth use of electronic nicotine devices.
