Mercy Housing, is a unique non-profit organization that provides affordable housing in communities in 20 states, and has 17 properties in Colorado. On January 1, 2019, the organization enacted a 100% smoke-free policy in all of their properties across the country. To support this new policy, Mercy Housing partnered with Denver Health to develop, launch and implement an in-house smoking cessation program in five of the Denver-area properties. Taking a holistic approach that focuses on a range of healthy habits, the comprehensive program includes workshops, meetings, support groups and one-on-one coaching. As of March 2019, four residents have successfully quit smoking while many others are on their journey. Mercy Housing provides information on smoking cessation resources, such as the Colorado QuitLine, to all of their Colorado residents.
