The restriction, directed by the state’s Governor, is aimed at curbing teen vaping rates and preventing nonsmokers from getting hooked on tobacco.

Then, in November, Massachusets passed a similar statewide policy banning flavored tobacco and levying 75% excise tax on e-cigarettes.

This bill makes Massachusetts the first state to ban menthol cigarettes, which are often suspected of appealing to children.

Both statewide bans have come following reports of the mysterious lung disease that U.S. officials have traced to vaping. The illness has sickened more than 2,100 and killed 42 people.
