Researchers Use Garbage to Study Teen Smoking and Vaping Habits

Researchers from the University of California San Francisco sifted through trash to understand what teens are smoking and vaping. 

They combed through the parking lots of 12 high schools in the San Francisco area, picking up discarded vape cartridges. Their waste analysis revealed vaping trends and showed that vape use changes based on socioeconomic status and geography.
