The U.S. Food and Drug Administration warns that “tobacco companies will often advertise at Gay Pride parties and other events specific to the LGBT community,” increasing perceptions that smoking is common and a part of the community, according to the Longmont Leader. 

Data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that LGBTQ individuals are less likely to be aware of available resources to help them stop smoking. Colorado’s expanded resources aim to be more inclusive and meet the diverse needs of people who use tobacco. The state offers free cessation resources such as nicotine gum or patches.
