Disposing of Tobacco Products

Tobacco use has a severe impact on our environment.

Toxic tobacco trash is littering our sidewalks, streets, and natural environments statewide.

Cigarette butts are the number one littered item on U.S. roadways and the number one item found in waterways and on beaches worldwide. When a cigarette butt is dropped on the ground it sticks around for years, allowing its more than 7,000 chemicals to seep into the soil and water supplies.

Growing Tobacco

Growing tobacco has also been shown to have negative impacts on the environment.

Common growing practices can lead to soil contamination and the destruction of forests. Large areas of forested land are often demolished in order to grow tobacco plants.
