Quit Tips

Here’s some extra motivation to keep you focused on your quit goal.

Make a plan. Pick a date to quit, and make a list of reasons why you want to quit.

Get rid of tobacco products and related items like ashtrays, lighters, and matches.

Tell family and friends you’re quitting. Ask for their support.

Keep a picture of loved ones with a message taped to it. Remember, you’re quitting for them, too.

Exercise when cravings strike.

Reward yourself with something fun when you reach milestones.

Keep healthy snacks, gum, mints, and toothpicks around. Drink lots of water.

Avoid people or places that you associate with tobacco use.

Take deep breaths and imagine your lungs healing and filling with clean, fresh air.

Check if your insurance can help cover the cost of smoking-cessation medication.

DON’T GIVE UP. Most people have to try several times to quit. Stick with it.
