Great American Smokeout
The 2013 Great American Smokeout gives Colorado smokers the chance to join millions of Americans on Nov. 21 in taking the steps to start living a tobacco-free life. Whether you mark the date by just quitting for the day or finally quitting for good you’re taking important steps toward a healthier life.
The observance was started by the American Cancer Society in the 1970’s and has since helped change the nation’s perception of tobacco use. The day has been used to draw awareness to the health risks associated with tobacco and secondhand smoke, even leading to many state and local regulations.
Many communities across the state have planned Great American Smokeout events encouraging tobacco users start the path to quitting. Find out more information about events in your area below.

The Great American Smokeout gives Colorado smokers a chance to join millions of Americans on Nov. 21 as they break free from the toxic effects of tobacco and secondhand smoke. San Luis Valley Health invites tobacco users to trade cigarettes or smokeless tobacco products for things that can help quit smoking, such as gum, toothpicks, sunflower seeds, lozenges, carrot sticks, and more. People who participate in the event can enroll in FREE support services with our Tobacco Navigator and be entered into drawings to win $25 Gift Cards.
The event will be held in Alamosa from 8am to noon at SLV Health Regional Medical Center, 106 Blanca Ave., and from 1pm to 5pm at SLV Health Stuart Avenue Clinic, 2115 Stuart Ave.
